WELCOME HERE
Leamington and Warwick
OUR STORY
A group of local volunteers formed Welcome Here in 2017 to help support Syrian refugees settle in Leamington and Warwick.
Since then, our work has grown steadily, welcoming refugees from Afghanistan in 2021 and supporting those seeking asylum from various countries, often when they are temporarily staying in hotels.
The team from Welcome Here Leamington and Warwick assists individuals to navigate the local area, access community services, learn English and above all, make friends.
Welcome Here Leamington and Warwick is a charity that continues to be run by a small group of committed volunteers from Leamington, Warwick and the surrounding area.
THEIR STORY
Words from a Syrian woman supported by Welcome Here who gave a speech at a welcome event at Leamington Town Hall:
"We moved from the camps' hard lives, which we hardly could live in, to new lives which we can find everything in, houses, education and support to have jobs. Everything will be better. We just miss our families in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq and feel upset about their difficult circumstances.
Thanks to all the volunteers and the teachers for all their support. You all helped us to integrate in our new community and our new lives. Now we feel at home."
